The Metropolitan Police Homicide Department wants 41-year-old Christopher Gerard Caggiano for murdering his ex-girlfriend earlier this month, leaving their two young children to find her body in his Las Vegas home.
Caggiano has been a Nevada corrections officer since 2014, most recently working at High Desert State Prison in Indian Springs – a prison about 40 miles northwest of Las Vegas.
As of today, Caggiano has yet to be found and is believed to be driving a 2017 white Nissan Rogue with Nevada plates: 69B230.
Woman’s Body Found in Las Vegas Townhouse
It was a 9-year-old girl who called a police dispatcher early one Sunday morning. Her sibling was also on the phone. 911 dispatchers reported that the little girl told them her mom, thought to be in her early 30s, was dead in a bedroom at their father’s townhouse—lying in a pool of blood with at least one gunshot wound.
By noon of that same afternoon, homicide detectives had identified the suspect, Caggiano, who had fled before officers arrived.
The property owner told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Caggiano moved into the rented townhouse in March of 2017; his children and ex-girlfriend had been temporarily staying in the house at the time.
Detectives believe Caggiano and the children’s mother were arguing the Saturday night before the crime. However, there is no record of domestic disputes at the townhouse. The accused will require the help of a Las Vegas criminal defense attorney to fight these charges.
Family Notified and Victim Identified
After the victim’s family was notified of her death, the woman’s identity was released: she is a 32-year old woman by the name of Cheri Anaya of Bakersfield, California.
It was also later discovered that Cheri died of gunshot wounds to the head and the neck.
