Drunk Man Plows into Trick-or-Treaters

A group of trick-or-treaters suffered an unanticipated trick last month when Edgar Mendoza-Fernandez crashed his car into a mother and her children on Halloween night.

A Truly Frightening Event

The incident took place at approximately 7:30 p.m. near Nellis and Charleston when Edgar, 39, jumped a curb with his car, struck the mother and her children, then crashed his car into a house.

Witness Trudy Swift says she heard someone scream while the crash was taking place. Then she heard someone say, “You hit my daughter. You know this is my child.”

Other witnesses reported that Edgar attempted to flee the scene of the crime after he crashed into the house, but they tackled him to the ground and waited for police to arrive.

The Aftermath

The mother was taken to a nearby hospital and is still in serious condition, having suffered broken bones; thankfully, her children were not seriously injured.

Edgar has been charged with DUI and driving without a license. He is being held at Clark County Detention Center. Several of the facts in this case, including the presence of children and the consideration that the suspect attempted to flee the scene mean he will have to work closely with an experienced DUI attorney to mount a vigorous defense.

Swift says she hopes Edgar suffers harsh consequences. “He needs to serve time, and people that are drinking and driving– I should think they shouldn’t have no license. No nothing. They should have his license revoked.”
