Las Vegas Judge Arrested for Domestic Violence

Las Vegas District Judge, Stefany Miley, was arrested late last month for domestic battery charges after being accused of hitting her 18-year-old son, Jacob, as per police records. The judge will need to work carefully with an experienced Las Vegas criminal defense attorney to answer to these charges.

Just before Christmas, the case was filed at Las Vegas Municipal Court under Stefany’s maiden name “Tewell.”

How Did the Domestic Crime Unfold?

According to police records, officers responded around 9:40 p.m. on a Saturday night to a home on the 2300 block of Malaga Peak Street, near the Summerlin intersection of Sahara and the 215.

Jacob and Stefany were heading westbound on Charleston when he went through a yellow light, after which his mother became upset and began fighting with him. As the argument about Jacob’s driving style escalated, the mother and son called each other some derogatory names, after which, according to the police report, Stefany “reached over from the passenger seat and slapped Jacob in the face causing him to get a busted lip.”

The Domestic Battery Continued

After the initial hit, Judge Miley continued hitting her son for several minutes. He was rather defenseless, as he was behind the steering wheel. The Judge’s 8-year-old son was also in the car at the time, to witness the event.

Later, when Jacob attempted to retrieve his belongings from his mother’s house, his mother continued to yell at him. His father, Edward Miley, picked him up, and after receiving a distraught text about the abuse, Edward’s lawyer reported the incident to the police.

The Police Investigation

The police followed up by acquiring Jacob’s verbal statement about the events, but he refused to provide a written statement. As well, he refused to allow police to take pictures of his bloodied face and busted lip.

To note: Edward Miley and Stefany Miley are in the midst of a divorce.

Stefany Miley has served as a judge since 2005 and is scheduled to appear in Municipal Court on the battery charge on the 22nd of this month. Until then, she is released on bail. She hired attorney David Chesnoff to assist with her case.

Back in 2009, Edward Miley faced domestic abuse charges himself after Stefany told police he was abusive toward her and threatened to kill their dog. She was granted a temporary restraining order at the time.
